What Is a Good Deal on Broadband and Utilities?

We all talk about getting the best deal for anything and everything. The best deal on car insurance. The best deal on your food shop. The best deal on your broadband, gas, and electricity. But what even is a good deal? Is it the cheapest price, the best value for money, or a mix of both?
When it comes to looking for a good deal on your bills, price is important. You don’t want to be paying a small fortune for something when a competitor can provide the exact same package for half the price.
The bills and utility industry is not only incredibly competitive but prices are changing all the time. It’s a nightmare to keep on top of (so say the deal hunters here at Split HQ).
The best way to find yourself the cheapest deal out there is to compare like-for-like packages from different suppliers. The only problem is, this can take up a load of time, but it’s almost the only way to make sure you’re getting the cheapest price. (Don’t forget that there are some suppliers who aren’t on price comparison sites.)
So, not paying over the odds for something is pretty important when you’re looking for a good deal. But the price isn’t the only thing you take into consideration, is it? If you’re paying £5 more for a particular package but you’re getting £10 worth of value in return, that’s a pretty good deal.
Npower are offering new gas and electricity customers money off Nest products as well as savings of up to £550 a year with free insulation installation (that’s a bit of a mouthful, isn’t it?). For a homeowner, this is a fair amount of extra value which offsets their fairly expensive duel fuel prices. I’m guessing, however, that you don’t own your own house. I’m guessing that you’re renting, most likely in a shared house, and free insulation installation isn’t something that blows your socks off. Am I right?
Similarly, British Gas offer their new gas and electricity customers free home and landlords insurance. Once again, you’re probably not a homeowner, nor a landlord, so these rewards won’t really appeal to you either.
Okay, so you’re probably wondering how Split The Bills give students value for money. We’ll give you discounts on things you actually need (and love) thanks to our partnership with Student Beans, forget about free insulation installation. Now this is the kind of value you should be looking for.
