It's time for the most loved (or hated) time of the year... Valentine's Day.

Whether you choose to spend the day celebrating or crying, we’ve got the ultimate student-friendly guide on how to save some coin whilst treating your loved one, remember ‘it’s the thought that counts’. 😉

1. Cook up a storm in the kitchen! 🍴

They do say the way to someone’s heart is through food, so it’s time to do just that. Ditch the overpriced crammed restaurants this year & get your chef hat on. Don’t worry, you don’t have to cook anything too exotic, nothing screams romance like a good ol’ spag bol (cue Lady & The Tramp scene).

But, if you’re no Gordan Ramsay, take a trip to your local supermarket for a cheap microwave version instead (we won’t tell if you won’t). Adding a few candles & background music can make this dinner seem like a romantic night in Paris, you won’t be able to tell the difference… 🍝

2. Don't forget the card. 💌

Arguably, the most important part of the day. It’s time to pour your heart out and tally up all the things you adore about your significant other. Nothing screams ‘thoughtful’ like a handcrafted card, right? Time to dig out your coloured pens and get to work… If you don’t have the time to DIY one, Card Factory have plenty of cheesy cards for less than 50p (it’s what you write inside that means the most) this’ll easily help to fit within your budget.

3. Music. 🎶

They say music is the language of love, although you may not want to serenade your partner with a boombox on your shoulder, we’ve got a cheaper & easier solution for you: playlists.

Whether you fill it with cheesy love songs like Donny Osmound’s ‘Puppy Love’ or maybe adding the song that was playing when you first met, a personalised playlist will have your partner falling head over heels… Better yet, playlists are FREE to create on Spotify.

4. Night at the museum? 🖼

Museums may make you think of long-winded talks about ancient artifacts but think this isn’t a time for stereotyping! Museums are actually really interesting; they encourage laughter and new conversations. Plus, if you go at night, you’ll get a more mysterious & romantic vibe with dim lights and less people around (did we mention most museums are free? 😉)

And if you’re single, don’t be disheartened, try these hacks on a friend, family member or maybe a pet? (Nothing wrong with being a crazy cat lady). 🤪
