1. National Railway Museum 🚂

With its vast collection of antique steam engines and modern trains, the Railway Museum is guaranteed to be a fun day out that’ll take you back to your childhood and beyond. Hang out by record-breaking vehicles like the Mallard or take photos alongside high-speed trains like the Japanese bullet train Shinkansen, all for free thanks to the museum’s free entry policy (although donations are appreciated)—just try not to get tempted by the gift shop.

A plethora of cafés such as Brew and Brownie are around the corner if you fancy buying yourself a sweet treat – just take your food to go and eat it on the grass beneath the ruins of St Mary’s Abbey for the ultimate atmospheric dining experience.
