What Is a TV Licence?

A TV Licence allows anyone in the UK to watch live content and use BBC iPlayer. While you can’t get a student discount on a TV Licence, the good news is that you only need to get one licence per household if you’re watching the applicable shows.

Under some circumstances, you may be able to get a refund on your TV Licence if you no longer need it (typically at the end of your tenancy).

FAQs about young professional and student TV packages

You’ll need to get a TV licence to make sure you’re legally covered for watching or recording live TV (any channel) and BBC shows (including catch-up on BBC iPlayer).

You do not need a TV licence if you watch catch-up content on channels other than BBC (e.g. All4), Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Now TV and other streaming services or listen to BBC radio.

Sometimes letters may be delivered to your address as it can take a while for TV Licensing to update their systems once we’ve ordered your TV Licence. If you’re still receiving letters after the first month of your contract please just let us know and we’ll be happy to provide the TV Licence account number and certificate for the property.
